Planet Hollywood is the “hottest” place in Las Vegas; it literally felt that way this weekend! However, there is no better place to be cool (or way to cool off!) than at the FlowRider attraction on the 6th floor pool deck of the PH Resort and Casino, the only surf machine on the strip!

If the 120 degree direct sun wasn’t hot enough, flowboarders from all over the country turned up the thermometer as they showcased their skills in the 2017 US FlowRider FLOW Tour. BIG Thanks to Flow Water for keeping the competitors hydrated through the day!

With a solid showing of professional riders, joined by a handful of amateurs, the guests and pool goers at Planet Hollywood were entertained by riders performing advanced tricks in front of the judges in efforts to earn National Ranking points, prizes and cash money!

The contest provided some exciting heats in both the amateur and professional divisions. Men’s Flowboard featured a stacked semi-final round, which led to an even closer final. After battling through the competition, Eli Miller stood at the top of the podium, claiming First Place. Brandon Ainge was the Men’s runner-up, taking the Silver Medal. Followed by Cole Libby (3rd –Bronze Medal) and Alex Orodica in 4th place.

Masters Flowboard featured defending Division FLOW Tour Champion, Matt Chipman, who battled it out with a group of local riders eager to take him on. Nick Gust made Chipman work for the Gold, finishing in a close 2nd place. Stef King snagged the Bronze while Denis Kaiser and Mark Thomas enjoyed their first FLOW Tour competition experience and are already excited for their next chance to do it again!

The Pro Female Flowboarding Division provided excitement as FLOW Tour Veteran Austyn Victoria Bynon stacked on even more points towards her National Title campaign.

However, the Christensen Flow Sisters (McCall and Taryn) gave Austyn a run for her money. McCall put on a great showing, while her sister and Amateur competitor, Taryn stepped up her game in the Pro Division, putting extra pressure on Austyn to earn those valuable points toward her campaign.

In the final run, Austyn did exactly what she had to do to hold off the other competitors and secured the 1,000 points and a Gold Medal.

The Pro Bodyboard Division featured a tight and thrilling final between 5x World Champion, Nick Nguyen, and 2012 World Champion, Daniel Tarapchak. While Tarapchak has been racking up the victories this season, Nick Nguyen claimed his first Gold Medal in Vegas.

With only one run counting in the head to head match ups, Nguyen’s first run was super technical and featured a difficult 5-trick combo right out of the gate on his first run of three runs, which led to a judges split decision and held up by tenths of a point to edge out Daniels high paced and stylish riding. Watch the final starting at 3:55:00 of the full event live stream.

Canadian Pro Bodyboarder, Jonathan Hintz finished 3rd respective and Jordan Grigg rounded out the top 4. Honorary mention to Justin Crow for stepping up from the Men’s division and intensifying his level of competition riding.

The Pro Flowboard final featured an up and coming Pro, Nate Murray vs. the Tour leader and 2x defending World Champion, Jake Chipman, who once again, came out victorious.

Murray and Chipman finished top 2 out of a field of 9 Pro competitors. Taylor Hales (3rd) and Daniel Tarapchak (4th) left it all out on the wave but couldn’t seem to connect a full run to earn the score needed to advance into the final round.

We want to give a loud shout out to the management team, Aaron Rodriquez and Brad Spencer, for their event efforts and for bringing the FlowRider FLOW Tour back to the Las Vegas Strip!
