Wave Crush Wednesday: FlowRider Utah

Wave Crush Wednesday (WCW) is a play off the popular social media trend, Women Crush Wednesday (WCW). Each week we will be selecting a FlowRider venue to highlight (on Wednesdays) as our Flowboarders Wave Crush.

Our first official Wave Crush, is going out to FlowRider Utah. FlowRider Utah is located in Ogden, Utah (roughly 40 miles from Salt Lake City) and first turned on it’s FlowRider in June of 2007The indoor FlowRider tripple is one of few in the world and home to some of the best flowboarders on the planet.

FlowRider Utah has supported the riders, events and attraction since day one. Over the years they have hosted numerous local competitions, annual FLOW Tour events and even the World Flowboarding Championships. Shaun Hancock, Manager of the Solomon Center and a rider himself, puts tremendous efforts in behind the scenes and always goes above and beyond.

“Flowboarding as a sport and lifestyle is growing every year and it is fun to watch it gain popularity specifically in the teen demographic. Utah has a strong boardsport background with snowboarding being so popular so the transition to flowboarding comes almost natural to local new riders.”¬† Hancock explains.

Shaun also participates in some of the competitions as well; when he is not riding, he is judging or lending a helping hand at the events.

Brad Spencer, 2012 World Champion and current¬† US FLOW Tour Champion, is a popular household name in the region when it comes to flowboarding. We asked Brad what it was like to train on his home wave,Ogden is the best place in the world to ride. We have some of the best and most creative riders. On top of that, Shaun Hancock will go out of his way to improve you as a rider and the sport in general. I wouldn’t be where I am today without Shaun Hancock and FlowRider Utah!” explained Brad.

Brad isn’t the only rider in the group putting Utah on the map. FlowRider Utah has produced several title winners such as Brad’s wife, Dee Spencer, current Women’s US and World Champion, Logan Lindeman (Junior Champion). Other notable names from Utah include Jake Chipman (2015 Men’s World Champion) and his dad, Matt Chipman, Masters Champion.

In addition to the FlowRider attraction, the Salomon Center has a lot to offer. With the town Ogden being an outdoor high adventure recreation mecca, the Salomon facility has brought some amazing indoor activities into the mix. iFLY Utah, Flowrider and iROCK Utah are at the core of venue. In addition, there is a Golds Gym upstairs, a rock climbing wall and full arcades down stairs there is something for everyone! Oh, and if you are feeling hungry.. the local favorite, Costa Vida (Fresh Mexican Grill), is right next door! Needless to say, Ogden, Utah has become a destination for summer or winter active lifestyle enthusiasts.

So gear up flowboarders and head over to one of the best indoor venues in the country! FlowRider Utah is scheduled to host a “Grow the Flow” competition on March 26th and will be the final event of the season on the 2016 FLOW Tour. “We are looking forward to hosting the US Flow Tour National Championships this August,” Shaun added.
